My question is how to torrent on a Windows machine (I have computers with Windows 7 and 8.1) with the least risk possible of getting a virus or malware on my computer. Most important tip I could give is use ad-block. How do you avoid these kinds of files? I mean, is it possible for a file to have a safe looking extension, like.pdf or.epub or.mp4, but still contain an executable or other harmful qualities? Or was he meaning that he downloaded a PDF in like a zip file and the zip also had an executable in it?. 1) Kaspersky should be fine, other alternatives are Avast Free or BitDefender Paid (free version is plain awful)2) Antivirus scanners can miss files, just because it doesn't detect a virus doesn't mean there isn't one. Although for most things it will detect anything malicious. Keygens also tend to trigger false alerts.3) Makes no difference, if the USB drive is plugged into the computer it's the same thing as saving it anywhere else.
You have to actually run a file for it to do anything, so either way it's the same for safety.4) Read the comments, if it's too good to be true it probably is, check the file sizes (if something is smaller than it should be that's a big warning).
